Art Charter for Climate Action

2023 Onwards

UN Climate Change

The Art Charter for Climate Action (ACCA) is a global alliance made by the visual arts sector, for the sector, to unite and accelerate climate action. Bringing together artists, institutions, commercial and non-profit organizations, and grassroots initiatives, ACCA strives to embed environmental values at the core of sector practices, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and foster a resilient, sustainable future for the arts and beyond.

Founded by Julie’s Bicycle, Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), ART 2030, and others, ACCA aims to reduce the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050, while strengthening the role of the visual arts in advancing climate action. The alliance seeks to place environmental values at the center of practice; to reduce the environmental impacts of developing, producing, transporting, and exhibiting visual art; to support sector adaptation and resilience; and to drive a green, fair, and environmentally just transition.

In 2025, ACCA reached a major milestone by becoming officially hosted by UN Climate Change through its Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA) Alliance, aligning its mission even more closely with the UN 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement targets. With a growing community of over 350 artists, museum workers, galleries, nonprofits, and others from more than 50 countries, ACCA is building a lasting institutional home to strengthen its global impact, deepen collaboration, and inspire real-world change.

Art Charter for Climate Action will become a network of networks uniting visual art sector stakeholders and initiatives from across the globe to take meaningful action on the climate and nature crisis.

It is our belief that only by working together can we make a lasting impact on how the art sector functions and facilitate a system change that aspires to influence global public activity and political systems.
