ART 2030 New York

2018-2019

ART 2030

ART 2030 New York is an annual platform uniting the contemporary art world in support of the United Nations’ 17 Global Goals, coinciding with the annual sessions of the United Nations' General Assembly.

In its inaugural program in September 2018, ART 2030 New York brought together some of the most important and diverse voices in visual art to participate in urgent discussions on how best to create and contribute to a shared and sustainable future. In collaboration with ART 2030, partnering galleries and arts organizations participated by hosting after-hours openings, panel discussions and special events. See below for our 2018 recap!

Art can be a powerful agent for change. 303 Gallery is proud to partner with ART 2030 in support of a shared vision of a more sustainable future. Lisa Spellman, Founder and Director, 303 Gallery

For the first edition of ART 2030 New York, leading Chelsea art galleries united to welcome UN delegates, the art community, and the public to extended public hours during the week of the United Nations’ General Debate, to foster discussion, engagement and advocacy towards the Global Goals through art.

Connecting exhibitions, artists’ oeuvres and each gallery’s own values, after-hours viewings offered a chance for audiences to experience art though the lens of the Global Goals.

Participating galleries:

303 Gallery, Cheim & Read, David Zwirner, Gagosian, Galerie Lelong & Co., Gladstone Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, James Cohan Gallery, Lisson Gallery, Luhring Augustine, Metro Pictures, Pace Gallery, Petzel, and Tina Kim Gallery.

The first gallery event of ART 2030 New York, hosted by Gagosian with Bottletop, focused on the topic of Equality, with specific attention to Global Goal 5, Gender Equality. How is it that this seminal issue is still a divisive topic in 2018? And how can both individual and collective action, through creative means, work to resolve some of the broader issue’s many related biases?

The Panel was moderated by Johanna Burton (Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement, New Museum), and joined by Mary Weatherford (Artist), Ulla Tørnæs (Danish Minister for Development Cooperation), and Cameron Saul (Founder of Bottletop and #TOGETHERBAND).
